Apple Investigating Touch Issue Affecting Some Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 Displays
In a recent internal memo shared with Apple Authorized Service Providers, Apple acknowledged and is currently investigating a touch-related issue impacting certain Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 displays.
According to the memo obtained by MacRumors, Apple stated, "Some customers may report their Apple Watch Series 9 or Apple Watch Ultra 2 is experiencing false touches on their display." The issue may be described by customers as "ghost" touches.
Reportedly, affected Apple Watch models may exhibit erratic screen behavior or other unexpected actions without user interaction, such as initiating phone calls unintentionally or preventing users from entering their passcode.
Apple advises customers to ensure their Apple Watch's software is up to date, indicating the company's hope to address the issue in a future watchOS update. However, Apple did not disclose the extent of the issue or provide a timeline for a potential resolution. It remains unclear if defective hardware contributes to the problem.
As Apple continues its investigation, technicians are instructed not to repair affected Apple Watch models. Instead, they are advised to guide customers experiencing the issue to perform a force restart by pressing and holding down the Digital Crown and side button simultaneously for at least 10 .5seconds until the Apple logo appears.
Released in September 2023, the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 models are affected by this touch-related issue, prompting Apple to take swift action to address customer concerns.
